About Beck Vets

The Beck Veterinary Practice has a long history stretching back seven decades, as the family-run practice has seen three generations of Beck vets dedicate themselves to taking care of their local community’s cherished pets.

Originally launched back in 1946 by Jimmy Beck and his wife Shirley, current owner Simon Beck moved his parents’ practice to its current purpose-built Whitby location in 1997, as well as opening a branch surgery in Loftus a few years later. It remains a family affair as Simon’s wife Sue is the Beck practice manager and daughter Libby – a fully qualified veterinary surgeon – has taken on the role of clinical director, while her  brother in law Toby is the assistant manager.

The family’s values of providing high quality care backed by sound clinical judgement and experience still runs as strongly at the practice today as it did when Jimmy first started serving his community.

The independent status of The Beck Veterinary Practice – it does not operate as part of a larger, corporate group, which usually involves having to use particular products or attain specific targets – means you can rely on our team of vets, nurses, animal care assistants and support staff to use their clinical freedom to always prioritise patient care and do what is best for your pet.
